Why a local operator

Planned in Sikkim, by people who live here

In the hills, the difference between a good trip and a stuck one is local knowledge: which permit takes a day, which road is open, which homestay keeps its word.

  • Registered with Sikkim Tourism

Travel agent and tour operator registration No. 77/DoT&CAv/S/20/TA, issued by the Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim, in 2020.

  • Based in Namchi, South Sikkim

Our office is at Lower Ghurpisey, Namchi — in the middle of the region you are travelling to, not in a city far from these roads.

  • Permits handled by us

North Sikkim, Tsomgo, Nathu La and Zuluk permits go through a registered operator. We apply; you bring your ID.

  • Road calls made on the ground

Landslides and snow change plans. Ours are adjusted by people who know which road is open that morning.

  • Local drivers

Vehicles and drivers who work these hill roads every season, for transfers, sightseeing and the high routes.

  • You talk to the people who arrange it

Call or WhatsApp the office directly. No call centre, no reselling to a third party.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is Silk Route Tours & Travels a registered tour operator?

Yes. We are registered as a travel agent and tour operator with the Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim, under the Sikkim Registration of Tourist Trade Rules, 2008 — Reg. No. 77/DoT&CAv/S/20/TA — and for GST under GSTIN 11CSAPG0952P1ZV.

Where is your office?

Lower Ghurpisey, Namchi, South Sikkim 737126. We plan trips across Sikkim and run tours from Gangtok, Namchi and Pelling, and to Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Bhutan and Nepal.

Why are there no prices on the website?

Because every trip is priced to its own dates, hotel category, vehicle and group size, and a figure on a website is out of date the day the season changes. Send us your plan and we will quote it in writing, itemised. It costs nothing to ask.

Can you customise a tour?

Yes. Every itinerary here is a starting point. We change the nights, the stops, the hotels and the pace to suit the people travelling.

Do you arrange permits for North Sikkim, Tsomgo and Nathu La?

Yes. These permits are applied for through a registered operator. We tell you which documents to send before you travel and apply on your behalf.

Which ID do I need?

For Sikkim permits, an original Aadhaar card, voter ID, passport or driving licence, plus passport photographs. For Bhutan, a passport or voter ID — Aadhaar is not accepted. For Nepal, a passport or voter ID.
